Sir William Boyd, MD

Born 1746. Knighted at Castlebar September 6th 1787. Died there 11th August 1815. On his tombstone is written: "His medical skill was profound, his learning various and extensive, his liberality was boundless, his manner modest and engaging, his probity unblemished . . ." By Bridget, his wife, he had children:

  1. William, baptised at Killala February 11th 178
  2. Jane, born 1781, married at Killala September 17th, 1806, Lietenant Henry Masterman RN. They had a daughter Mariah Grey Masterman, died in 1908, aged 102, and is buried at Castlebar
  3. Mary, born 1786, married her first cousin Patrick Boyd, and died at Mount Gordon 14th July, 1865.
