Robin

Robin Gerard Penleigh CBE , born January, 13th, 1919. Baptised All Saints Church, East St. Kilda, Victoria, Australia.

Distinguished Architect, Robin wrote many books on architecture, including:

Australia's Home (1952)
The Australian Ugliness (1960)
The Great Australian Dream (1972).

His critical work shaped the direction of Australian architecture and was acknowledged with several awards

Awarded the Haddon Travelling Scholarship to tour Europe and Scandinavia in 1950-51.

Visiting Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1956-7.

He designed the Ormond College and Baillieu Library at Melbourne University and the fountain next to Flinders Street Station, Melbourne.

He became a Commander of the British Empire in 1970. He died 1972 narrowly missing receiving a knighthood.

He married Patricia, daughter of Ralph E Madder by his wife Letitia Gough (sister of Doris Gough who married Merric Boyd) and had children:
